1. Blue urine: Methylene Blue concentrates in the urine. This is a benign side effect.
2. Blue tongue and teeth: Also benign. May last up to 6 hours (or rarely longer in some). Here are some remedies to help it go away faster if needed. Do NOT use as a troche if you have plastic veneers or any non-porcelain appliances in your mouth. Consult a dentist for any concerns
3. Elevated blood pressure: If you have a history of hypertension and are on medications to control it or you have prehypertension, please do NOT take methylene blue without close supervision
4. Mild headaches. These headaches are usually mild and resolves after the first few doses. If not, decrease your dose or speak to you healthcare provider.
5. Numbness/ tingling of tongue or cheek: This is due to the peppermint in the formula. If numbness occurs, troches should be swallowed on an empty stomach instead via buccal absorption.
6. Higher doses of MB (>1 mg/kg)--much higher than in our formula--can lead to GI biofilm disruption, oxidative stress, and gastric ulceration. See this article for more information.
